I’d love a place to rest my head
That’s in your arms or in our bed,
Upon a roof or in the shed,
Between your legs like sandwich bread,
I’ll admire you without a peep
To see you blink and hear you sleep
Or talk about your stressful week
What needs your grace or stern critique,
We’d laugh about the blunders made,
The things you bought, how much you paid,
The friends who left, the ones who stayed,
The miracles for which you prayed,
We’d debate what we should wear tomorrow,
What to give and what to borrow,
Where to put our thanks and sorrow,
And words to say that rhyme with ‘sorrow’ (lol)
We’d go on and on with favorite songs,
Movie scenes that don’t belong,
Drinks we had that weren’t strong–
The bartender had made them wrong,
We’d fantasize about our trip,
What to see and where to sit,
What to eat and where to sip,
And where we have a membership,
We’d banter over what they’ll say,
From pictures of our special day,
On how and our niece and nephews play,
On how and why they’d go astray
And then we’d end on something light,
How things in life are going right,
Both out of mind and out of sight,
I’d kiss your head and say ‘Goodnight’
And pray to see you again tomorrow.
